Mobile Tool Organizer

This project will teach you how to build a mobile tool organizer that fits into your closet. It has a pegboard backing to hold your tools and accessories along with shelves. It features castor wheels to move around your home or garage wherever you need it.

Project Inspiration

Just as we use tools in our daily lives for building new things, repairing old things, or self-defense, there are many spiritual tools available to us to use in our lives. We should seek to develop a spiritual toolbox that builds our relationship with Christ, repairs our past sins, and defends us against the devil.

  • Bible
    • God’s divinely inspired word that contains the truth revealed to us by God. We are able to learn about our past, present, and future as people saved by Jesus Christ.
      • Some great tools I’ve used to read more have been BibleGateway and getting the daily reading emails from USCCB
  • Prayer
    • Rosary
      • A devotional prayer to Mary that can be used for various intentions. The meditative prayers are focused on the mysteries of our faith. By meditating on these mysteries we come closer to bringing our lives to Jesus.
    • Novenas
      • Devotional prayer that occurs for nine consecutive days for a specific intention. Prayers are said asking a certain saint to intercede for the intention. A great tool I’ve used has been PrayMoreNovenas.
  • Sacraments
    • Reconciliation
      • Reconciliation allows us to repent for our sins before God and receive his graces to combat sin in our lives. We are able to break sinful addictions and loosen the grip that sin has on us.
    • Eucharist
      • The source and summit of our faith. Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist as we receive him during this sacrament. We are filled with his graces to live out his mission for us in the world and grow closer to him. We can receive this sacrament daily!
  • Holy Water
    • Used to bless people, places, and things to cleanse them and provide protection from evil.
  • Sacramentals
    • Crucifix
      • Visual representation of Jesus’ perfect sacrifice for us to free us from sin. Jesus won the battle against evil and we are reminded of this with the crucifix in our homes.
    • St. Benedict Medal
      • Can be worn or placed in a house or car. The medal is a prayer of exorcism against Satan, a prayer for strength in time of temptation, a prayer for peace among ourselves and among the nations of the world, a prayer that the Cross of Christ be our light and guide, a prayer of firm rejection of all that is evil, a prayer of petition that we may with Christian courage “walk in God’s ways, with the Gospel as our guide,” as St. Benedict urges us.

Tools Needed

  • Drill or Impact Driver
  • Circular Saw

Materials

  • 1-1/2″ Deck Screws
  • 2-1/2″ Deck Screws
  • Wood Glue
  • P120 Sandpaper
  • 2 x 4 x 8 FT QTY:3
  • 1 x 3 x 8 FT QTY:3
  • 2 x 2 x 8 FT QTY:1
  • 48 in. x 24 in. Pegboard Material
  • Caster Wheels (Optional)

STEP 1

The first step is to cut all the wood to size using a circular saw. The cut list is shown below. I was able to get Lowe’s to cut the pegboard to size in the store. These dimensions may be modified to whatever size space you may have for this organizer

STEP 2

The next step will be to build the frame for the organizer. You should use two 2-1/2″ wood screws and wood glue at each joint. There will be two frame sections built and 4 screw joints on each frame screwing in from the outside.

STEP 3

The next step will be to screw into place your cross slats (1 x 3’s) and side bumpers (2 x 2’s) for the shelves. You should use the 1-1/2″ screws and wood glue for the slats and 2-1/2″ for the bumpers. You can see the spacing of the slats shown below. The middle is slightly larger gap to make all the measurements easy to mark. Start off with the end slats as they just butt up against the 2 x 4’s. Use at least one screw for each slat on each side of the frame.

STEP 4

The final step is to install the pegboard on the back of the frame. Simply screw the pegboard into the back of each side of the 2 x 4’s. Make sure to use several screws spaced up the 2 x 4 to ensure stability once tools get mounted to the board. Casters can then be added as well to make the whole organizer mobile to move around wherever you need it. A quick sand of the surfaces will give you a nicer finish and clear off any rough edges.
